Jiri Kayser brief Biography Penticton
Kayser was born on November 16, 1918 in Pisek. His lineage has always been associated with art scholars and exemplary artists starting with Thomas de Keyser (1596-1667). He was appointed Professor of fine art in Prague while at the same time advising architects, city planners, and industrialists. These same people used his paintings in their national and international exhibits. A collection of fifty of his paintings went on a solo tour to Australia, New Zealand and the Orient.
He was awarded the Czech Republic's 50th Anniversary Prize for Modern Painting
After fleeing with his family to Canada in order to escape the turmoil in Eastern Europe, he had several exhibitions in Montreal and taught art at Ecole de Beaux Arts in Quebec City and elsewhere. He eventually settled into a quite life of portrait and still life painting. "His outpouring of work during his [thirty-five] years in Canada has ranged from electrifying landscapes and urban scenes, to detailed graphics that clearly reflect his classical inheritance." P
